Level 2

This class is taught by:

Diane Perkins

My name is Diane Perkins and my journey onto the mat began eight years ago purely by chance. It all began with an invitation from my sister-in-law to try a yoga class. At the time I was a life-long avid runner and was open to anything that would keep me injury free so I could continue running. I have to admit that I first thought a yoga class consisted of stretches and trying to morph your body into peculiar shapes. I thought of it just as a physical exercise.

With much trepidation, I attended my first yoga class. I would have to describe it as comical at best. I had no breath awareness, struggled with the postures, and my mind was everywhere but on my mat. I have to admit that it was tougher than any marathon I had run, yet I still kept coming back for more. When I finally started to shift the focus towards breath and not perfecting the postures did I understand the mind-body-breath connection.

The effects of practicing yoga were profound more importantly in my daily life than running. I felt a sense of calmness and quietness that I had never experienced before. On my mat, I learned patience and self-acceptance which in return made me more patient and accepting of others. The lessons I learned from practicing yoga inspired me to become a teacher so that I too could share the many blessings I had received. I wasn’t sure when or where but I knew I would do it someday.

It was purely by chance that I walked through the doors of Mindful Motion Yoga and began attending classes. It didn’t take long for me to realize that I had found a yoga home where I could cultivate my practice and learn how to become a teacher. I completed the 200 RYT teacher training from MMY in 2013 and am so grateful for the learning experience, all the new friendships that were made, and to be part of such a wonderful yoga community. I consider it an honor to hopefully share in your journey. I look forward to seeing you on the mat! Namaste.
